Celebrate Mother’s Day at These Local Reno Restaurants
Reno certainly has a lot of fun spots for a great meal or a night out on the town, but where can you go when you’re looking for a perfect Mother’s Day lunch or dinner? After all, you’re going to want to treat mom with a little something extra than just a simple meal out.
Not to worry, as we made a list of our favorite upscale Reno restaurants that serve up some of the best cuisine in town. Check out the dining establishments below, all of which have a touch of gourmet in their food offerings, and pick the one you think your mother or wife would like best. As the restaurants below cover a range of different cuisines and styles, at least one of them is bound to fit any food preferences and tastes.
Be sure to make reservations well ahead of time, as Mother’s Day is one of the busiest restaurant days of the year in Reno.
Wild River Grille
Located inside the Riverside Hotel building, which is now on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wild River Grille sits right on downtown’s Riverwalk and features a gorgeous patio that overlooks the nearby river. The atmosphere in the restaurant is elegant yet comfortable, with nature-inspired touches found all around the dining room.
When you come to eat at Wild River Grille, you can expect a show with your dinner, as live music on the outdoor patio is frequently on the agenda. The entertainment ranges from jazz and blues to flamenco-inspired acoustic guitar and classic Americana. The restaurant’s owners, Chuck and Jan Shapiro, pride themselves on sourcing fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients that bring the most intense, delicious flavors to each and every one of their plates.
Try the Plum Chipotle Salmon, Sautéed Elk Medallions, Brown Butter and Sage Gnocchi, or one of the many delectable cuts of steak. You and mom can always complement your dinner with one of the grille’s many exquisitely handcrafted cocktails or the many wines and microbrews available to order.
Wild River Grille is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and reservations are accepted in advance.
Stone House Café
This family-owned Reno establishment has been handed down between several generations of Abowds. The bungalow-style building that houses the Stone House Café was built as a home in 1918 out of river rock found in the surrounding area. Over the decades, it has been turned into a nursery and sold to the Junior League of Reno, before it found its current status as a restaurant in 2005 thanks to Adele Abowd’s vision. Her dream was not just to build a restaurant but to create a café society that would be a gathering place for people from near and far.
Today, the café serves a variety of sophisticated, tasty dishes that feature fresh ingredients. On warmer days, such as Mother’s Day (hopefully), you can enjoy a lovely lunch out on the patio surrounded by verdant nature. However, even on a sunny day you may choose to sit inside to soak in the history of the building.
Stone House Café is a great destination for even the pickiest of eaters, as its long menu includes a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, seafood, and cuts of meat. Almost everyone will find something to love here, and rest assured that your choice will be cooked to perfection, although if you want a recommendation, locals would go with the chicken fried steak.
Liberty Food & Wine Exchange
The owners of Liberty Food & Wine Exchange don’t just want to offer a great dining experience but a great social one as well. This restaurant is meant to foster meetings, conversations, and bonding among the friends and family who come here. Customers rave about the friendly, professional service that goes above and beyond to ensure guests feel at home and have a wonderful experience.
Try the Old Skool Gnocchi or the spaghetti and meatballs on the menu. If you want a nice long appetizer to start, try ordering one of the charcuterie boards and pairing it with a glass of great wine. Liberty Food & Wine Exchange also offers a great selection of delectable cocktails that they frequently update, so you can try new flavors every now and then. Make sure you call ahead of time for reservations, as this tends to be a pretty popular restaurant year-round in Reno, especially so on Mother’s Day.
Twisted Fork
The Twisted Fork’s name is no coincidence; the restaurant loves to serve up classic dishes with a twist, meaning almost everything on the menu has some unique flavors or ingredients you probably haven’t tried in that particular combination before. However, the food isn’t overly complicated by any means. Chef Sergio Romero loves using simple, fresh ingredients to create his culinary delights.
The restaurant itself has a warm, inviting ambiance, as it’s well-decorated but also comfortable. Try dishes such as the Paella-Risotto Croquettes, Beef Chili Verde, or Cauliflower Ceviche. To complement your inspired meal, try one of the many beers, wines, or carefully made cocktails available. For something extra special, get one of the drinks from the Dead Poets Club part of the menu. These classic cocktails have been aged in oak barrels for three to eight weeks and are named after, as the name suggests, dead poets.
For mothers that consider themselves adventurous eaters and want to try a more daring place, the Twisted Fork is the perfect place to visit.
This Mother’s Day, do something special and take your mother or wife to one of the unique gourmet restaurants listed in this post. Whether you’re looking for a European-style café, adventurous eats, or classic grill fare with live music, you will find the perfect place for you right in Reno.
