6 Reasons to Attend the Reno Wine Walk (Beyond the Wine)
The small businesses in the Riverwalk Merchants Association host a monthly Wine Walk on the third Saturday. The walk begins at any designated starting point when you purchase the tickets. Buy tickets online using the organization’s website two days before the event, or get them on the day of the walk. You must be 21 years old to participate and have your ID with you. The walk goes along the Truckee River and downtown Reno’s neighboring streets.
When you present your receipt at the event, you receive your ticket, a branded wine glass, a wristband, and a map of the walk and participating businesses. From there, you travel along on the walk, sampling wines from merchants. Beyond the wine, our De Castroverde Personal Injury & Accident Lawyer team has compiled a list of six reasons to attend the Reno Wine Walk this month.
Dress Up in Costumes
Consider dressing up in costumes when you join the Reno Wine Walk. While you can dress up in your favorite going-out or comfortable clothes, there’s something extra fun about coordinating matching costumes with your friends for an event. If you’re joining the walk during the holiday seasons, you can dress up in Halloween costumes, Thanksgiving-themed, and other holiday-themed attire. If you’re joining the walk during any other time of the year, feel free to get creative with your friends by getting matching T-shirts.
If you’re not a local, you can make matching vacation outfits or shirts with your loved ones for the walk.
Socialize With Your Friends
Other than sampling wine during the walk, this is some quality time you can spend with your friends, family members, or partner. There’s nothing like spending a Saturday afternoon walking around town, catching up with friends, and trying new wines. Chat together as you walk down the various streets and breathe fresh air. If you’re having a friend join you from out of town, this event can introduce you to the area. Show them around downtown Reno and pick out places to explore further after the walk.
Explore Local Businesses
This event also allows you to explore local businesses around the area. There are only select merchant participants in the walk because stores must be Riverwalk Merchant Association members in good standing to participate in the event. Sample the wine from the shops and have a look around. During the walk, you might find your new go-to clothing boutique, restaurant, or home decor shop. Some participating merchants are activities, like Reno Axe, a bar and axe-throwing establishment. Or go bowling, play giant Jenga, and enjoy other fun games with your friends at The Arch.
You can find a list of the local businesses for each month on the event’s website. Past small shop participants have included:
- Sierra Tap House.
- 5 Star Saloon.
- Labels Consignment Boutique.
- Urban Market.
- The Refuge Spa.
Check the walk map or the event’s website each month to see the returning and the new shops participating.
Get Some Exercise
The Reno Wine Walk is a fun way to get in some exercise. For example, if you had a long week at work, you can spend Saturday getting outside in the fresh air, walking from store to store for wine, and talking with friends. The event advises against bringing dogs and strollers because the walk is a popular event that can get crowded. You’re allowed to bring your children, but they must always be with someone at least 21 years old.
However, if a merchant requires an ID to enter the establishment, children aren’t allowed into those locations, so you might have to skip those places. Additionally, you won’t have to worry about cancelations of the event because no matter the weather — rain, snow, or shine — it will still take place since most merchants are indoor locations.
Book a Future Spa Appointment at The Refuge Spa
During the walk, you might see The Refuge Spa. If this spa is part of the Wine Walk, you can sample wine here and book a relaxing treatment for yourself later. The spa can allow you to unwind and relax, helping you regenerate and recover from life stressors. At the walk, you can discuss the appointment dates, services, and amenities with the staff members.
There are several services that this spa offers, including:
- Floats.
- Facials.
- Body treatments.
- Waxes.
You can enjoy a cocktail or wine from the spa’s bar at your appointment, which you may have sampled during the Wine Walk.
Enter the Raffle
Each Reno Wine Walk has a raffle you can enter. The raffle location changes each month, so be sure to look at the event’s website before you go or ask a staff member when you get to the event where they plan to announce the raffle winners this month. Past raffle events have taken place at The Library and include over $500 worth of prizes. There are a few things you have to do to qualify for the raffle, which are:
- Visit at least five of the Wine Walk’s locations.
- Complete the information on the back of the map.
- Turn it into the raffle location at 5:15 p.m.
- Be in attendance for the drawing to claim your prize.
